California is the state most obsessed with movies, according to new research. The study by Japan-101 analyzed search volume data for multiple phrases, terms and queries related to movies and movie genres over the last 12 months in order to determine which states love movies the most. Somewhat unsurprisingly, ranking in first place is California. The Golden State is the home of cinema, so it’s no wonder that it is sitting clear in first place with 1,296 average monthly searches per 100,000 people made for movie-related terms. California’s favorite genre is horror, with 386 monthly searches on average per 100,000 people.

Ranking in at second place in Texas. With 1,203 average monthly searches per 100,000 people, the Lone Star State is far clear of third place. The favorite movie genre of the Texan people is none other than horror, with 381 average monthly searches per 100,000 people. Animated movies come behind in second with 184 average monthly searches per 100,000 people.

Taking third place is Utah, with an average monthly volume of 1,180 searches per 100,000 people. The home of the Sundance Film Festival, the favorite genre of movie in the state is horror.
