I know I am being told to freak out about the NSA gobbling up all of my information. Instead of being worried about our gov’t, I am more worried about other countries that have the same access to the internet as we do. They are free to do whatever they want with that data, with no representation of how, why or what they plan on doing with it.
Think about it, information is out there regardless. Vis et vis: facebook. Tens of billions of users, uploading pics of babies, sharing birthdays, pictures of our houses, our cars, our favorite hang-outs, best friends, etc. We do this knowingly and consenting, trusting that none of this information will be used in an in-appropriate manner.
Since the dawn of communications, others have had a chance to listen in on our deepest darkest secrets.
Now in the digital age, it is not only easy to over-hear, but keep records of things we say.
I mean, are there large numbers of you with great secrets that need to be kept private from the spying eyes of the government? I mean, so far this information has proven to avert some terror attacks potentially saving countless American lives. As far as I know, no information has been used to frame or black-mail anyone. I guess I don’t see what the big deal is about.
In a nutshell, don’t post, email or digitally record anything that you don’t want to be used against you, it’s that simple. If you need to stay off the grid you can pass information the old fashioned way, time to buy a cool hat and a trenchcoat.
