Scientists in Europe say they’ve gotten to the root of unwanted gray hair. They’ve discovered that hair turns gray due to a depletion of an enzyme that breaks down hydrogen peroxide and is usually produced less as you grow older. But now, sufferers can ditch the dyes and use an ultraviolet, B-activated topical cream. And as if that’s not enough, the remedy also treats vitiligo, which is a skin depigmentation condition that the scientists originally set out to solve before coming across the gray hair fix. However, there’s still no word on whether the topical ointment will be available to the public.
The study is published in “The FASEB Journal.”
