Alice Cooper & Marilynn Manson to tour.

Post 147 of 256

Alice Cooper appears to be planning to hit the road with Marilyn Manson.  While there’s been no official announcement about such a trek, Alice has a poster up on his website tour page of the would-be road trip that reads, “Masters of Madness Alice Cooper Marilyn Manson Shock Therapy Tour 2013.”  Cooper also has several U.S. tour dates posted, starting with a show in Salt Lake City on June 4th, but there’s no indication that Manson is also on the bill.  Manson has no tour dates posted on his website.  According to Pollstar.com, the two shock rockers will be teaming up for one show in Pittsburgh on June 23rd, but that’s not one of the dates listed on Cooper’s website.

What a great experience it would be to see these two together.  I have seen both Alice and Marilyn live at one point or another.  These two artist have so much in common, you can see the huge influence that Alice has made on the evolution of music.

It can even be argued that Alice Cooper inspired the punk movement.  Johnny Lydon, aka “Johnny Rotten” lead man of the one of the first punk bands to achieve world wide recognition, “The Sex Pistols”, often credits Alice for the “kick starting” of the punk rock movement.

“I’ve referred to the Sex Pistols as ‘musical vaudeville’ and ‘evil burlesque,’ and for me there was definitively Alice Cooper influence there,” Lydon reflected” (from RockHall.com)

It was the whole “Horror Pop” movement, scaring kids into submission.  I think this is why it made parents so nervous, the secret was out.  :)

Others can be more obviously linked to Alice…

Marilyn Manson

Rob Zombie

KISS

Motley Crue

Adam Lambert (This guy is really scarry!)

What other bands can you think of that were inspired by Alice Cooper?
