It was February 21st in 1958 when Gibson shipped the first ”Flying V”. The Flying V offered a radical, “futuristic” body design, much like its sibling, the Explorer which was released the same year
It was Jimi Hendrix, in search of a distinctive looking guitar with a powerful sound, also started using Flying Vs. The renewed interest created a demand for Gibson to reissue the model.
The V looks like it is begging to be played, hard. I get the same feeling looking at an expensive sports car. You almost can’t look at it without hearing it’s distinctive tone. Thank you Gibson for thinking outside of the box, and letting the shapes of your guitars became as sensational as the music they produce.
